Wonderful Wellington

Today was our last day in Wellington and once again we've walked over 10kms. Our first treat was a ride on the cable car and what magnificent views over Wellington from the top.......

And this has to be the most scenic coffee spot we've ever shared as well......
and there are the enormous cheese scones again........
This shows how steep the access is to some homes........
and some have their own private small cable car to help with access - especially as one gets older........
Ferns everywhere and enormous bumble bees.......
perhaps some antics from Uni students as this was outside one of the campuses........

Our lunch stop was in a quirky cafe - Sweet Mother's Kitchen.........

and hanging from the ceiling was an old Australian $2 note.....haven't seen one of them since coins were introduced nearly 30 years ago!
The weather was fabulous today with some very welcome sunshine. As we wandered back around the harbour Larry said more than once that he would love to come back - so maybe one day! The ferry below is the mode of transport to New Zealand's South Island and takes about 3 hours.......

love this sculpture and then around the corner we found a 'real' version..must have been freezing in that water!.........
The highlight of the day was finally going to Anne's shop - Minerva. The shop is peaceful and classy and full of the most beautiful books and stationery along with some threads and wool felt. Anne also has William Morris pieces so I now have a diary for next year.....
and more things to make for Miss Maisie and the most delicious felted wool....
Tomorrow we have an eight and a half hour train journey to Hamilton so I have some knitting to do along the way. Chat soon x

  1. I'm so glad the weather improved for you Michele. (Although the temperature wasn't a lot better.) As we like to say, "You can't beat Wellington on a good day". Unfortunately there aren't quite enough of them. It looks like you've cover many of the highlights during your time here. I hope you enjoy the train trip. Make sure Larry has a pie. It's all part of the Railways experience. I'm sure you'll love National Park village and some of the alpine scenery along the way. Larry will be interested in the Rarimu spiral and how that works.

  2. What a steep walk some have to get to their front door! can you imagine walking up and down those stairs every day I see why some have had to put a lift in. This sounds like a wonderful trip and many beautiful places to see

  3. Sounds like a great trip and the weather is freezing back here too. Don't think I could do any of those stairs, so would need the lift! xx
